COUNSELING SERVICES AT MARANACOOK SCHOOL-BASED HEALTH CENTER

The school-based health center offers high quality, on-site counseling services in collaboration with Kennebec Behavioral Health and Health Affiliates of Maine. These services are available to any student who is signed up for expanded health center services.

Services Available:

• Individual and family counseling

• Substance abuse assessments and treatment

• Educational support groups

• Educational seminars for staff, students, and parents

• Consultations for parents and MCS staff

• Rapid Assessment for Adolescent Services (RAAPS)- Routine risk behavior screening for students in grades 8-12.

• Referrals for off-site treatment

Requests for Services: Requests for these services are made with the school nurse at the high school and with the school nurse in the middle school. The nurses work together to coordinate each counselor’s caseload, make appointments for students and send reminders, and assist with communication between the counselor and staff or parents if necessary. If a student or parent is not sure they want or need counseling they can set up a time to consult with one of the counselors. This will give the student/parent an opportunity to meet one of the counselors and decide if counseling is something they want to pursue.

Counseling Team: The team consists of providers from Kennebec Behavioral Health and Health Affiliates of Maine who provide services five days per week.

Services are billed for through health insurance by Kennebec Behavioral Health and Health Affiliates of Maine. If a student’s family does not have health insurance the team will work with the family on payment options.
