KVBA Summer 2008 Reading Outline

Summer is a great time to read, and a great opportunity to begin reading books on the new KVBA booklist! The Dr. Shaw library will have a good selection of these books to choose from during the summer months ~
It is important to keep track of the books you have read so you can pass this information back in to Mrs. Brown at the School library in the fall. An easy way to do this is to keep a spiral notebook and write your review as soon as you finish reading the book!

Here is the information I would like you to include in your review:
1. Book Title
2. Author
3. Illustrator
4. Is the book fiction, non-fiction, poetry or biography?
5. Write a brief summary about the book (3-4 thoughtful sentences)
6. What did you think of the book?, did you like it?, why or why not?
Have fun reading these books over the summer ~remember to turn your reviews in to the school library in September.

A Note to Parents: The Kennebec Valley Book Awards (KVBA)
booklist are new childrenÕs books chosen yearly by the elementary school librarians for 3-5 graders.
The intent of the program is to encourage children to explore and discover a variety of literature and promote a life-long interest in reading.  Children will be encouraged to read from this booklist throughout the school year and we will celebrate our reading accomplishments in the spring. To attend the celebration, third graders must have read at least 4 books on the list, 4th and 5th graders must read at least 6 books. Children may read these books on their own, with a sibling, parent or friend~the point is to promote fun and enjoyment in reading! Have a great summer~
